Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery

Orthognathic surgery is Dr. Shah's true passion and is the reason he became an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. After having his life changed by this operation he wanted to help others suffering from the same diagnosis.

The surgeon and orthodontist work together to correct developmental or acquired abnormalities of the jaw bones. These abnormalities result in the teeth coming together incorrectly making eating and speaking difficult. Examples may include "underbites", "overbites" and "open bites". The jaw bones, when misaligned cause a less than aesthetic facial balance. By correcting the bones, facial harmony is achieved with amazing cosmetic results and most importantly, chewing and speaking are normalized.

Dr. Shah utilizes 3D CT scans to do "virtual" surgery prior to entering the operating room. This fantastic technology allows the surgeon to see exactly how and where the bones will move. If modifications must be made, they are done ahead of time.

Botox And Fillers

Creating and maintaining a youthful appearance is achievable without surgery. Dr. Shah will sit down with you to understand what your goals are and create a customized treatment plan to achieve them. Whether alone or in combination Botox and fillers are an exciting option to pursue.

Cosmetic Facial Implant Surgery

Facial beauty is multidimensional. Nice skin and pretty teeth are obviously important, but the facial skeleton is the foundation. By using facial implants Dr. Shah can enhance cheekbones, strengthen the jaw line or create symmetry where it was lacking. Dr. Shah has unique expertise in this aspect of cosmetic surgery because his clinical focus is creating bone symmetry and balance.

All-on-4, TEETHXPRESS & Dental Implant Surgery

Restoring an individual to health should always be a doctor's number one priority. When any part of the body has been lost to disease or injury, reconstructing it to proper form and function is the goal. Teeth are no different and dental implants have provided doctor's an amazing avenue to restoring oral health and beauty. Implants can be used to replace 1 tooth or all the teeth as in the All-on-4 procedure. Dr. Shah has done over 2,000 All-on-4 cases which only a handful of surgeons in the world can claim.

Surgically Facilitated Orthodontic Therapy

This operation is incredibly exciting in that it can shorten the time a patient is in braces by an entire year. By using the body's natural capacity for bone remodeling Dr. Shah can perform a short, in office procedure with sedation that ultimately helps the orthodontist move your teeth faster. Dr. Shah has found this operation particularly beneficial for adults needing braces.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Surgery (OSA)

Where Dr. Shah gets involved with patients suffering with this diagnosis is when they require maxillofacial surgical intervention. Examples include:

  1. An inability to tolerate CPAP
  2. No improvement with dental splints
  3. No improvement with soft tissue procedures such as UPPP, hyoid suspension or genioglossal advancement.

By advancing the upper and lower jaws, obstructive sleep apnea is nearly cured in almost all patients. There is no operation with a better success rate. Dr. Shah cherishes the opportunity to work closely with the entire sleep medicine team to help these patients.

TMJ Disorders

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is unique in the human body in that it is a paired articulation connected by a common bone, the mandible (lower jaw). It's complexity requires methodical evaluation and 3D imaging to truly diagnose pathology. Dr. Shah treats the full scope of TMJ disorders requiring a surgeon — from office based injections to total joint replacements done in a hospital.

He is currently researching the use of novel therapies such as fat grafting for patients with internal derangements. Dr. Shah also has been working closely with pediatric rheumatologists to help children with TMJ disorders.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Having your wisdom teeth removed has become almost a "rite of passage" in the United States. Dr. Shah will discuss with you why this operation remains incredibly important in both treating active disease and preventing it.

Maxillofacial Pathology

Dr. Shah was lucky enough to train at a residency program that utilized state of the art protocols to treat tumors of the jaws and surrounding skeleton. The goal must be to remove lesions permanently with as little damage to the surrounding tissue as possible. Dr. Shah's focus is benign locally aggressive tumors such as ameloblastomas.

Maxillofacial Trauma

Dr. Shah is a teaching faculty for AO Craniomaxillofacial Foundation. This is a Swiss based organization tasked with training novice and experienced surgeons with proven protocols for diagnosing and treating facial trauma.

Distraction Osteogenesis

This is a technique where bones are cut and slowly separated over time to allow new bone to fill in the gap. The concept is not new, but the applications and distraction devices are. Dr. Shah has employed this technique to grow bone for implants, advance jaw bones and fill gaps caused by trauma or tumor removal.

Pediatrics

Dr. Shah's training at Boston Children's Hospital prepared him to treat the entire scope of pediatric patients requiring an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Shah insists on safety and the highest standards of care and thus, works with pediatric anesthesiologists to provide comfortable treatment in his office. Specifically, children requiring anything from tooth extractions to complex therapy for jaw and facial deformities such as ectodermal dysplasia can be treated with compassion and safety.
